Hello all,

Just thought you could use an infusion of good news in a time when there's not much good news happening in the job market. I graduated in October with my Bachelor's degree and was offered a job today as a Financial Analyst for Alliant Energy (they supply electricity and gas to most of Iowa and Wisconsin).

The price is definitely right, but more importantly the situation couldn't be better. I am very excited!

Thanks guys.

Yeah I forgot I was on here not all that long ago talking about wanting to leave Iowa. On the interim, I realized I actually like it here. My biggest reason for wanting to leave was that I didn't think there would be many finance opportunities here.... and there really aren't, but I got one! :)

Well done. I enjoy hearing people tried before they just got up and left. Stay out of Florida because there is nothing here but decent weather. I thought your girl had something to do with you wanting to relocate or were you just waiting on her to finish school?

I should be sleep nite nite

Thank you everyone. Words cannot express how excited I am for this opportunity. Truth be told, the company I am currently working for is having a really rough time. We got pay cuts last week and there have been some layoffs with warning of more to come.

So needless to say, somebody up above had to be looking out for me on this one. Out of pure coincidence, I land my dream job for significantly more money during a time where losing my current job was a distinct possibility. Doesn't get much more convenient than that.. heh. All day yesterday, I was literally scared that I was going to "wake up" and it was all going to be a dream. I know I earned it, but I really feel like I won the lottery with this situation.

Yeah Blue, my fiance's parents moved down to Florida and the majority of my family lives in Mississippi, so we really contemplated moving down south to be a bit closer. DEFINITELY not Florida, though. When we visited her parents last month, I had never met so many unemployed people. Of course everyone was happy, but they were struggling to find jobs and pay their bills... not an environment I want to be in right now. Florida actually historically has super low unemployment due to all the retirees not needing jobs and tourism bringing in money from other states, and I'm sure in 5 years or so that trend will continue. But I just can't live in a place that falls so hard when the economy gets rough. Otherwise it's a beautiful state and I plan on visiting as often as possible!

I anticipate leaving this state FL in Aug 2011. I am really looking to move around midatlantic/northeast MD, NJ, NY, DE, DC metro. I enjoy the east coast, I just don't like watching the football teams. I like the chance to work for the CDC so ATL is slightly applealing along with family being there. My boy wants to leave ATL so I am cool wit either way. If he wants to move back to Jamaica he is own his on.
