Wade Phillips went out of his way to praise Jacques Reeves' performance as a fill-in starter. But he also made it clear that the Cowboys couldn't unveil a lot of the Phillips 3-4 wrinkles because of Terence Newman's absence.

"We didn’t play hardly any man to man at all because of the match-ups," Phillips said.

It's tough to bring a bunch of blitzers if your cornerbacks can't play man. And it's tough to double-team a dominant WR if you can't leave the guy alone on the opposite side. Phillips said Newman would have been one-on-one against Amani Toomer a lot, allowing the Cowboys to double cover Plaxico Burress.

"He can shut down the whole right side or left side of the field," LB Bradie James said about Newman. "Not too many guys can do that. You can call the game differently with a guy like that."

I guess that is a good point I really didn't think about. If we had Newman in there it would've been man on man, which allows more blitzes coming from all over. Well lets just hope Newman can come back ASAP.

Yeah I agree without Terrance Newman we are are very weak in the secondary. I love Roy Williams but come on how many times was he out of position. Reeves is a fringe starter at best and we all know it. hate to say it but I would of rather had Aaron glenn's veteran savvy an dexperience in there instead of releasing him. Just goes to show you that we need to get Terrance Newman reupped and quick. The guys is a shutdown man to man corner that allows us to have a passrush! Our Defense was horrible last night but thankfully the Giants were that much worse.Hopefully we get Newman and Ellis back for the Fins and take it from there. Cant be happy about giving up 35 but happy for the W!

I think we can let him sit one more week. Theres really no need to rush him back and risk him getting reinjured. After watching that Dolphins/'Skins game there should be no reason why we can't come out with a W with the same group out there.
