Ok, now that Ive had some time to diagnose the draft Ive realized something. I didnt get Chung and Ive come to grips with that. So I started watching film on the guys we did get and I really started liking DeAngelo Smith. Well, I got curious and I compared his combine to that of Chung. I was shocked at the results.
40 time: Smith 4.57 Chung 4.51
Bench press: Smith 17 Chung 25
Vertical Jump: Smith 31.5" Chung 34"
Broad Jump: Smith 9'1" Chung 9'11"
So as you can see, they arent that different, and if you watch tape on Smith hes just as good on the field. So in closing, we didnt get Chung but we did get the next best thing.

That's what you get when you take a player and swap them into a different position. Sometimes you're able to draft them as, say, a cornerback in the 5th round whereas if they were a safety in college they might have been a first or second rounder.
Lots of teams have had reasonable success doing this with the DE to OLB transformation.

Yeah Zac, just trying to find the silver lining, lol. I do like this kid though, Ive seen like 3 vids on him, the kid can play. Heres what Wade had to say about him:
Hes a violent football player, an explosive football player, hes a coverage safety, and a punt returner
Violent......explosive......ME LIKEY! :D

No comment on how close Chung and Smith are comparatively speaking? Adam?

The Numbers say they are close it seems. He may get there and even pass Chung by in the long run. Heck we do not know if either one of them will even do any good in the NFL. But you pointed out something that I did not notice myself. We will just have to watch the 2 of them now even more closely now that you have made the comparison to see how the stack up against each other.
Won't it be something if He ends up in the long run being better than Chung? LOL

Yeah, Id have to swallow my pride and say I was wrong though, I wouldnt like that. Come to think about it, with our pass rush Smith should be able to be a great safety, then again, NE's D isnt too shabby either, lol.

I'm very excited about Smith. Then again, I was also very excited about Watkins a few years ago. Hope this one goes better.

The biggest thing to me is the bench press. One good season of working out with the big boys will fix that.

Chung had 25 reps on the bench to Smith's 17, I hope they get that up.

25, :D
I know what you were trying to pull there, :D Chung out lifted all but 2 safeties at the combine. That includes Michael Hamlin (17), seems the Cowboys like weak safeties.

Oh I know, :D
I was just pointing out something that I dont like about Smith and Hamlin. They need to get stronger. Im not sure that they could push over 2 250lb+ linemen on one play. :D

Yeah if you remember when we drafted both players they said that they need some serious strength work before they go out on the field. I know our guys will whip them into shape. That is all those guys do. They are in good hands and the rest will be up to them.

I agree, I just have to take my shots. Ive already said that Smith and Williams are my two favorites from this draft. Wade called Smith violent and explosive, so I cant wait to see him on the field.

What this doesn't measure is the most important part, what's between the ears. A lot of scouts liked the stats of Leaf over Manning. You just have to see them play.
