The NFL Draft is less than a week away and it's kind of boring in Dallas with no first round pick. But of course Jerry Jones is not going to sit back and let everybody else have all the fun.
The trade winds will be blowing in Dallas. My pick for the Cowboys in the second round is WR Brian Robiskie or FS Louis Delmas.

Who do you have the Cowboys picking?

I dont want Delmas, sorry a 185lb safety is not what I want. I want Chung or Johnson, really no one else with that pick. People that are picking Max Unger can go somewhere too, WTH?

Not sure what message getting a WR sends to Austin. I would hope. its now or else. E27 I dont want a 185 safety either.

I like Robiskie. It looks another Witten for Romo. Provided Williams and Austin can stretch the field. We have 3 RBS. Plenty of troubles for opposing defenses

Austin got his message when the Cowboys opened discussions about a long term contract.

And as for another WR, we do have a roster spot available as we have not filled that spot left open by Terrell Owens.

We need WR depth too.

Clarence he be onto something, but as I wrote in the blog, it looks like its gonna come down to LB or WR.

The Cowboys are in no rush now to sign Austin to a long-term deal now that he signed the tender, we have him for a year, and this will allow him to play into a new contract or not.

Im not sure Robiskie makes it to #51, he's blown up the rankings, but I'd take him as insurance, he's a solid receiver.

And I'd take linebacker just based on the issues with Spencer and Ellis. That's going to be paper thin in 2010.

Why would you take a LB at 51? Youll have at least 3 good safeties there, why take a LB? I can already see if Dallas is thinking like this I might as well not watch the draft. Why watch them screw up the future when I can just turn on vids of last year and watch that all over again. If Dallas goes anywhere but safety with the first pick I guarantee you I wont watch the other picks. Oh, and BTW, Ill be on here reminding everyone week by week what Chung is doing :D

Austin signed his tender? I thought Hurd did and Austin was the only one we had left to sign.

I do not understand why the safety position is not being posted up as our number 1 biggest need either. It is frustrating me as well. They so far are handling the Safety position just like they did all those years with the CB position. It WILL NOT fix itself people. If they do want to over look the Safety spot then maybe they do need to go out and get another WR because we are going to need him big time. We are going to have to outscore and stay ahead of all the teams again to win the games as the TE's of the world keep picking us apart and scoring TD's.

Well I have been on the same page as you for a while now but it was not until I started reading this crap that I am starting to think they may just over look it just like they did all those years with the CB spot. What I am reading if it comes true will annoy the heck out of me. Do they not learn anything from past mistake? Huh?

Now you can see why Ive been pissed the last week or so. Not only will we probably not get Chung, but well pass on Reshad Johnson and Williams Moore also. WTH is Jerry thinking. Im serious, if the Cowboys dont go safety FIRST, then I dont care what else they do. Im tired of seeing Jerry try to go after the "sexy" picks when we NEED a safety.

Well I watch it all regardless but I will not be happy about it if they ignore the Safety position again. I am more of a fan of drafting the best player available but our hole at the Safety spot is HUGE. I want us to fix it one way or the other. If we do go WR over the Safety spot I will be very disappointed in Jerry. I will pull for our team regardless but I will not want to hear any griping if we pass up a great player at the Safety spot and we get killed next year because of it.

The draft never ever goes the way fans want it to go, we never get the "guy" we want, and sometimes the team goes in a totally different direction. It could end up being LG.

If we go Oline/LB/WR with our first pick I guarantee you Ill throw something at the damn TV. I would lose all faith is Jerry's drafting ability, not that there is much there anyway.

reading DC.com.. I dont think Chung is on there list. it looks more like LB or WR at that #51. or if they do go saftey, I think they have Moore higher on the board.

like everyone I don't like louis Delmas

I'm going
Johnson
Moore
Chung (he's agreat hitter but more of a in the box Safety like roy so not my first choice)
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Love Robiskie but at 51 I don't think he will last so long and if you give me the choice between Robiskie and Johnson I take Johnson.

Safety isn't necessarily our #1 concern because we got Sensabaugh. There's absolutely zero reason to believe a rookie coming out of college could outperform Sensabaugh.

And I'm not saying that I don't want a safety because I actually do. I want us to find the next Ed Reed actually, but I'm surprised nobody has at least mentioned this. I can understand being confused a little, because while Sensabaugh will almost assuredly start this season above any rookie, a rookie could probably develop into a better safety over time.

Just playing devil's advocate here.

What you arent accounting for Zac is that Chung could play on special teams and be our PR while getting groomed to be our next safety.

Your passion for Chung reminds me of how I wanted Michael Turner years back, long time members will remember how I endorsed him whole heartedly, like you have been with Chung.

Last year I wanted us to draft Owen Schmitt bad too for our Moose like FB, and it didnt happen. The draft will break your heart sometimes, lol.

Well we do have Sensabaugh and a pro bowl FS in Hamlin, which I think his down year was a combination of playing next to 3 different SS, not being in camp as well as having to play closer to the line. With that in mind I would not be completely upset with the pick of LT if one drops (like that will happen) or G if Duke is there. I would be okay with ILB if Laurinaitis falls to early second and we grab him. But my heart is with either Chung or Jarius Byrd. Chung if we need SS more or Jarius Byrd if we think Hamlin could make a successful move to SS

And remember ppl this isn't Jerry anymore. Its Ciskowski, Jerry has given full reigns to him and last year I got 2 guys that I liked. FeJo and Jenkins. I liked Jenkins till DRC stole me but Jenkins was my second choice..... Last year I got both my second choices, which now I am happy for. And remember last year when everyone was like WTF with the Bennett pick. We are all glad he is now a Cowboy so even if Ciskowski doesn't pick the name we want wait till the season when we see the guys in action before we declare they are the dumbest ppl on the earth

Good point NickStar... if you want confidence in this year's draft, then look no further than last year's draft. I'm confident that we'll pick another group of winners regardless what position is chosen.

Very good point NickStar! Yeah we all have to try to not let our emotions get the best of us right after the draft. Things worked out well last year in the long run draft wise and we have to give the guys we do draft a fair chance.

I don't see how the hole is as "HUGE" as you make it out to be, Adam. We have a Pro Bowler in Ken Hamlin who can player either safety spot. We signed Gerald Sensabaugh, a guy who earned a starting spot with the Jags and had 70 tackles and 4 picks last year. Keith Davis will probably back back and he's solid depth who can also play both spots.

If an offensive lineman, receiver, nose tackle, or even linebacker who you had scouted high drops to you, I don't think there's any position of need on our team so great that it should make us pass on the best overall talent.

CowboyzAdam
04-22-2009, 10:22 PM
Well maybe HUGE was a bit much Haynie. But IMO it is our biggest need. Is that fair Homefry?

Haynie
04-22-2009, 11:36 PM
It's fair, but I don't know if I agree. Left tackle could become a huge problem for us if we don't find Flozell's eventual replacement, who will probably be needed as soon as next year. We know nothing yet about Free or McQuistan. I'm also worried about our depth at nose tackle. One injury to Ratliff and who are we counting on?

I don't care what rookie you bring in; no second-rounder in a weak draft is beating Hamlin or Sensabaugh for the starting job this year. So if we're talking about what we need for 2009, here's my ranking:

1. Defensive Tackle
2. Offensive Linemen
3. Safety
4. Linebacker
5. Wide Receiver
6. Cornerback

SmilesAustin
04-23-2009, 12:46 AM
I like your list, Haynie. Plus I would like to have a big 320+ pound DT anyways for goal-line situations. Ratliff is a great DT, but we could use a plug to rotate in with him periodically to give him a breather on long drives without sacrificing too much.

It would also be nice to have an offensive lineman who can get in the rotation and fill in if there's injuries. I know that's not a very sexy pick, but it's still a position of need, especially based on the age of our o-line right now.

I think any one of those positions you mentioned could be our 1st pick. I think if you're not trading up or down at all, then you look at all the players available at those positions and you take the best guy on the board. DT, OL, Safety, LB, WR, or CB.

CowboyzAdam
04-23-2009, 02:24 PM
You did a great job of driving your point home Haynie. I cannot argue with your points made about the need to get Flo's replacement in here pronto. You are right to point that out.
