Giants will use Eagles' scheme to get after Romo
The Cowboys won't be the only team at Texas Stadium busting out a new, blitz-happy defensive scheme Sunday night. Hall of Fame scribe Rick "Goose" Gosselin writes that Romo will see a familiar, perhaps frightening game plan from the Giants, who hired ex-Eagles LB coach Steve Spagnuolo as their defensive coordinator.
The last time Romo faced this defensive scheme, the Eagles undressed him in a 23-7 victory at Texas Stadium last December. Romo completed 14 of 29 passes for 142 yards, was sacked three times and intercepted twice. His 45.5 passer efficiency rating was his worst of a Pro Bowl season.
Romo will see the same look Sunday in the opener against the Giants, but with different players providing the pressure.

some how I'm not really nervous about their defense. I just hope the o-line can keep umenyiora and strahan off of Romo.

Throw early and often against these blitz packages. Hitting Owens on slants and letting him break tackles. And dump off to Witten and our RB's coming out of the backfield.

Our line is extremely better than last years. Though, if the Giants penetrate, I think Romo can handle it. We can run many different packages and i think the versatility will beat the Giants D.

I dont think our O line is extremely better than last years. All we did was add one guard. The other 4 starters are the same.

A roll and a short, quick dump to a FB away from the blitz could net some substantial yardage. A few plays like that will keep thier LB's honest for the remainder of the day. Just short passes in the flats away from the blitz and all the runner has to do is beat one guy for a big gain.

I agree with you Sand.. both our backs.. well all three really have the ability to beat a one on one.. JJ and Tyson with their speed and MBIII with his power...
Like you said.. a few of those and the LB's will stay home..

It will be a good first test for Garrett. Hopefully, he'll adjust the plays accordingly....unlike someone didn't do last year.....

I agree, they'll mix Blitz packages and Cover 2 defenses to try to Confuse Romo...Too bad it's not going to work as I see a more Ball controlling Offensive that will grind down this defense
Seemed like last year we ran the same plays, in the same order every week. Not to hard to gameplan for. I know Redball's got something for them.

That doesnt mean that they didnt get better. Taking away our weakness and putting in a guy who is a vast improvement helps across the line. Its not as simple as taking in and moving a guy thats the difference, its that the whole unit will be much better with no weak link and a year together.

I notice they aren't using a "Giants" scheme to go after Romo. They are so stupid!

to compare their defense to the eagles is laughable. they may have gotten the LB coach but the players are nowhere near the same with the exception of osi, strahan and don't forget about pierce.

Well we will finally see how much better our Offense truly is this week end. Sink or swin as they say. They now know it's coming so they can't say after the fact that they we not at least warned. They have been challenged so I hope they are up for the task.
