IRVING – Growing up in Plano, Valley Ranch seemed like a mysterious place to Thomas White.
"Sometimes you'd imagine what Emmitt, Troy and Mike were doing on that field, and it always seemed elusive," White said Monday of Cowboys stars Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin. "To drive in and work out for the team was a great feeling. Something you dream of as a little boy."

White, who spent the last four years playing wide receiver at Baylor, was among a few dozen local players to work out for the Cowboys. Others included Grand Prairie quarterback Rhett Bomar (Sam Houston) and Southlake Carroll quarterback Chase Daniel (Missouri).
The Cowboys will have roughly 30 national prospects visit Wednesday through Friday.
A former walk-on at Baylor, White caught 69 passes as a junior and senior with 10 touchdowns. He is viewed a late-round selection, but the Cowboys have looked to local products in those rounds (Patrick Crayton, Jacques Reeves) or as free agents (Tyson Thompson, Daniel Polk) in recent years.
"Obviously I'll play for any team that picks me, but to play for America's Team, a team I grew up watching, and add to that the fact they do have a history of signing local talent, it was very serious. It was a business approach for me."
