Barber's retirement is no relief

DE Chris Canty glared at a reporter who asked if it was a relief that the Cowboys wouldn't have to deal with Tiki Barber on Sunday night.

"You're going from a running back that's 200 pounds to one that's 260 pounds," Canty said. "Would you feel relieved?"

Barber, who retired but still rips the Giants on national TV, was an elite back who especially excelled on plays such as draws and screens that showcased his elusiveness. Brandon Jacobs, Barber's 6-4, 260-pound replacement, figures to do most of his damage by lowering his shoulder pads and punishing tacklers.

"Brandon Jacobs brings an entirely different element to running the ball," LB Bradie James said. "They're kind of old-school with that. We know they're going to try to come out and do their best to test our will.

"We know that we've been in a few games with these guys where it's been an all-day sucker, where we're fighting the whole time. I have no doubt that's how it's going to be."

you took the words right out of my mouth especially if he gets to the second level where the guys trying to bring him down are smaller this could prevent a problem. Heck I remember Roy whiffing on a couple of tackles on him.

I hope our Lb's eat their wheaties that Morning b/c their going to need it, as my theory is to keep him from running North and South, Something that is Easier said than done!

Jacobs reminds me of Big John Riggins.

The only way to really stop him consistently is to put him on the sidelines.

exactly.

as long as we take this guys legs out, he won't produce much.

and there is a HUGE drop off from barber to jacobs. barber did a lot of the unnoticed things. even when he wasn't gaining huge yardage on us, he was doing other things, like text book pass protection and drawing a lot of coverage out of the backfield and into the flat.

with barber out of the equation we can focus more of our attention down field and not worry so much about a screen going the distance. plus, we may get some freebee sacks due to jacobs mental mistakes in blitz pickup. something barber would never do.

jacobs is fast straight ahead, but he's not as shifty or savvy as barber.

Tiki's big play ability was always a threat anywhere on the field. Jacobs doesn't present that problem. We can take more chances on D...run blitzes...to disrupt things.

I think you are right on Ratskins. Barber did do a lot of unnoticed things. he was just a beast all the way around. Jacobs has some pretty big shoes to fill.
