OK first I am going to say that maybe I am pissed because it is a Cowboys problem at the moment. Is it to much Blue Kool aid or am I the only one here that thinks this is really ridiculous?
OK so Wade was not a Cowboy Coach nor a player when he took the HGH Drug. See the problem is that we really don't want players taking steroids because they can hurt and kill you if taken improperly. Players often take them to enhance or get an edge over an opponent. Therefore for those reasons it is banned from use in the NFL. I understand that and I support that.
Where I am getting really annoyed with this on Wade Wilson's part is this: Here is a guy that has served in the NFL for over 27 years that has one hell of a clean record. Anyone who remotely knows anything about Wilson would know that he would never take nor offer any drug or steroid that he thought would harm himself or another person in any way.
OK we know he admits to taking some to possible help with his Diabetes and boost his health. Hello. He has Diabetes...not a game to play. Just take a look at Wade. Does he look like a Steroid junkie who is abusing this drug?
I do believe the punishment does not fit the crime in this situation. I mean lets all use some common sense here. Fine him if you want to make a point. Get out of here with your 5 game suspension. He's a Coach for crying out loud. This was not necessary IMO and not called for. I have applauded Goodell with all his cracking the whip up until this point because it has been long over due. I do believe Goodell missed the call on this one.
Cowboys QB coach Wade Wilson was suspended five games and fined $100,000 for violating NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Wilson, who has diabetes, said he took a banned substance last fall in an attempt to improve his health. He said he did not distribute any substances to other people, and an NFL statement cited evidence supporting that claim. He declined to specify which substance he took.
"I can't say that I regret trying to improve my health and my quality of life due to complications from diabetes," Wilson said during a conference call with reporters. "I will apologize for any embarrassment to the Cowboys, to the NFL and most especially my family."
Wilson cannot have any contact with the Cowboys until Oct. 9, a penalty he felt was harsh considering his clean record during 27 years as a player and coach in the NFL.
"I was kind of taken aback by the severity of the penalty," he said. "I was taking a product that I thought was a legitimate product for legitimate reasons, and it came back to bite me."
