View Full Version : What Are You Watching?

Here are the shows I watch regularly, ranked in order of their greatness:

"Mad Men" - Two seasons of this show and already it's reached "Sopranos" status with me. It has the best acting on television and the quality goes all the way from the incredible star actor to even the most minor characters. If you like drama that doesn't compromise a sense of realism and consistentcy, this is the show for you. It's the best character-development show I've ever seen.

"The Office" - I've been a huge fan of many great sitcoms; "Seinfeld," "Frasier," and "Cheers" to name a few. I can honestly say that this is my favorite of them all. Steve Carrell is a genius and the entire ensemble has perfect chemistry and contrast. There truly has never been a bad episode of this show. There's never been a rerun episode that I've chosen not to watch.

"Damages" - Any shows that has an actress of Glenn Close's caliber is worth checking out, and this one never disappoints. It has a fantastic storyline and the acting is tremendous. It's far from being another legal show, because the cases only make up some of the story. It has just as much (if not more) to do with the characters and how their personal lives weave in and out of their job. Season One felt more like a made-for-TV movie than a series.

"Friday Night Lights" - I'm so glad this show survived NBC's original decision to cancel it. The football part is fantastic, and the character side is done in a way that guys and girls can enjoy. All of my married friends say this is the only show they can watch with their wives and everyone enjoys it equally.

"South Park" - This show can go into dry spells from time to time, but then it will come out with some episode that completely blows my mind. They're always right on top of what's going on in the world and the way they blend social commentary and comedy is tough to beat. IMO, "Cartman" has been the best character on television for the last ten years.

"Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles" - I thought this show would suck, but it absolutely doesn't. In fact, it may be my favorite sci-fi series ever (and I was a huge Trekkie, so that's high praise). The biggest shocker is how awesome Brian Austin Green ("David" from "90210") is in the role of a soldier from the future. When I saw him I figured the show would be cancelled in a few weeks. Now, he may be the best thing about it. Well, aside from the super-hot female Terminator.

"LOST" - I don't know if I even still like this show anymore, but the story is such an incredible mystery that I'd feel silly for not seeing it through to the end. I guess if nothing else, that's one way of keeping viewers. There are some great characters, though, even though the lead (Matthew Fox - "Jack") is a major douche.

"24" - I said this in another thread; I buy the complete seasons and watch them with my friends instead of watching the show when it airs on FOX. There have been plenty of reasons to not like this show, but Jack Bauer keeps you coming back for more. Keifer Sutherland is the shit.

"The Biggest Loser" - I first watched this thinking it was a documentary about Jim Kelly, but it turns out to be a really cool game show about weight loss! (j/k) Seriously, this is a great show and it certainly can serve as motivation for those of us who struggle with weight. Seeing the transformations of the people helps me stick to my own goals.

"Heroes" - Last and very much least, I've almost given up on this show. It started off so awesome but it just feel like they're writing each episode as they go and there's little direction. The guy who plays "Sylar" is the best actor and he's been flipped from good guy to bad guy more times than The Undertaker (pro wrestling reference). I figure this one is on its way out. I might give it up before that happens, but I just keep hoping they'll get back to the awesomeness of Season One.

Hmmm, that's a lot of shows. God bless DVR.

The Office is the best show on tv.

We also started watching Kath and Kim before the Office and I like it a lot.

I can not wait for the LOST 2 hour premier! I just want to know what the heck everything means! So confusing and mysterious I have to keep watching.

Family Guy is my friends and my obsession.

I catch South Park when I can...I love how they poke fun at current events or things and they are SO right with their imitations.

TV series that are done but on DVD now are The Black Donnellys which should have gotten more seasons, Arrested Development....one of the best shows out there, got cut too short. Generation Kill i just bought, it was a short HBO TV series, it is based off of a company of recon soldiers who were one of the first into Iraq. From the reviews i have read, it is a super accurate portrayal of what it is like to be in the military...look it up and read some reviews and give it a rent.

Ok here it goes

1.- Burn Notice.- If you haven't seen it watch it is on season two an it's excellent a CIA agent that gets burned and stuck in miami, does some good deeds to help people while he tries to find out who burned him the format is good, funny and it talks a lot about espionage.

2.- Dexter.- Our favorite serial Killer a new definition of a good guy hahaha. It's morbid crude and the acting excellent. it's must see show.

3.- How I met your mother. The best sitcom since Seinfield the show is freaking funny and Barney ( J. Patrick AKA "Dougie Hawser") is my personal roll model this show is freaking legen "wait for it" dary. if you haven't seen it I recommend watching the first 3 seasons before the 4th like all shows the longer it goes south a little this season has been really good but not great as the rest.

4.- The big bang theory. It's moving up each week well made Sheldon and Howard are what makes the show great you have a little bit of everything I didn't gave the show a lot of hope at first but man it won me over by the 5th episode.

5.- The Office is also great it has more dept than the others but sometimes they go over the top so much that I just can't stand it. Specially last season. This season has been great I've laughed my ass off.

6.- House. Didn't watch it before the writers strike last year but since I had nothing new to watch I did and became an instant Fan. you will two.

7.- Family Guy. Best cartoon show can't waith each week to watch it best episode this season the one about Jesus and Surfing Bird. Haven't been able to stop chanting the bird song ever since

8.- South Park. Classic never let's you down the 12th season was as good as the first hope it never ends

9.- Lost. love it season 2 and 3 I hated it but they got me back on season 4 and hope they bring it again this year. Even if I tought that the moving the Island plot was the dumbest thing ever and it took credibility and value from the show.

10.- Psych.- It's about a guy that's a good detective and fakes being a Psychic to solve cases is really funny.

Shows that I used to love that have gone south fast.

Heroes.- one of the best first season ever by a show sucked the past two and they change the plot so much and whos bad and who's good it has become stupid.

Prison break.´- also a show that had an excellent first and second season until they went to Panama and the writes didn't know what to do next. the show it's getting worse and more stupid each week. First by bringing michael girlfriend back from the death and now they're working for the company and his mother is alive. STUPID.

Actually I have only seen one episode with my Wife and the one I saw was pretty freaky. I really do not watch regular TV much at all. I just put up the last thing I really saw that I thought was really cool. I will watch more on line. My Wife said you can catch all the episodes online. So I'll check them out and get back to you.

Ok Haynie thsi is my review of your reviews hahahah.,

"Mad Men" - Watched part of the first season wasn't my thing. I don't say it sucks but it just wast my cup of tea I know a lot of people like it.

"The Office" - Love it also.

"Damages" - never liked it stop watching it long ago. Again people like it not my cup of tea.

"Friday Night Lights" - I like the show, but I hate the ex-girlfriend of the guy in a wheelchair, she's one of the worst actress I've ever seen. why she has to force her voice every time she has an emotional scene and do.... it ... like ... this.

"South Park" - the HIV episode this last season an instant classic.

"Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles" - sorry haven't seen it can't find my self watching this one after the crappy T3 movie I lost faith for this franchise won't see the new movie also.

"LOST" - I agree

"24" - They lost me after the third season sorry but after you explode a Nuclear bomb in the US and infect everyone with a mayor virus what else is..... they went high very fast, the 4th season sucked and couldn't watch the rest.

"The Biggest Loser" -I like it until the family show when it was individual it was better,.

yeah Hulu.com you can watch them there or download the complete season on HD and watch them in 1 weekend that's what I do.

Also I forgot about Scrubs one of the best shows loved it since the first and until this 8th season which is their last and just started last week hasn't let me down. Zach Braff is one of my favorite actors if you haven't watch two of his movies "Garden State" and "Last Kiss" rent them I'm sure you're going to love them specially Last kiss the story is so good and you can relate to the story and characters.

Boston Legal was also a favorite of mine but didn't put it because it was recently cancelled by some stupid guys in ABC this was a great, great show that talked about real issues and pretty funny. Alan Shore was an excellent character

Don I am in agreement with you on the let down of the last few Terminator Movies. I do have to say my Father really likes the Sarah Connor Chronicles and he had me watch a few this past season. I was rather surprised and impressed with the few I did see. I actually wish I had started watching it from the beginning. I do plan on DVRing it next season if I can't remember to watch them every week. I have to say that Summer Glau who plays the female Terminator is Hot as Hell. Never thought She would be able to pull of a Terminator without it being lame but She actually does a good job.

I guess the more I think about it Don I have watched more regular TV than I first said. I just have a hard time remembering to tune in each week to not miss episodes of shows I actually like. The Wife is setting me up auto record all new shows on the DVR for me next year so I can keep up if I miss anything. LOL

I still miss my Sopranos.

Im glad you put Two and a half Men DC. I think that is really a great Comedy as well. The shows I really like are as follows:

24
two and a half men
the office, Definitely agree with all you about that one.
how i met your mother
the big bang theory...i must admit, it started off slow, but is slowly bringing me in. Its pretty funny
Heroes.....I have actually liked all 3 seasons.....although there were a few parts i didnt care for, like Hiro going back to ancient Japan....
Im starting to like 30 rock also.

I agree with you on this one. Michael Scofield has that same leading man quality like Jack Bauer. I probably only still watch because of him and T-Bag (one of the best characters ever). The rest of the cast is pretty bad (even Lincoln is getting worse). The story has been stretched too far. It seems like it's coming to a close, though, so I'll see it through to the end.

I forgot about Weeds excellent series and funny as hell it took 4 season to see Mary Louis Parker naked but worth it hahaha.

I have to say I'm thankful of all the big cable stations that are finally doing shows (HBO,TNT,Showtime,etc...) because not only they are doing better/darker stories and not so family oriented. The freedom they have has produced better shows. I've recently seen that the majority of the best shows are on cable.

Also we have to thank them for giving us tv shows were we see our favorite actresses NAKED. Like the best show ever (muted off course) the "L" word a show of hundreds of HOT lesbians having sex each week any man dream.

I forgot about Big Bang Theory. I DVRd them for no reason and never watched them, then one day i started watching them and the show is too good! I love the humor the show brings.

Oh, and I have only gotten through the first 2 seasons of weeds since thats all they offer on the Xbox360 Netflix streaming, so im waiting for them to put 3 and 4 on there too. But I love the show, i got addicted quick, and so did every single person i know that has an Xbox360 and does the Netflix streaming.

HAHAHA Samuel L. Jackson man guys i guess you think all black man look a like but it isn't Samuel L. Jackson. C'mon he's a 100mill box office movie star. He puts at least 2 movies out each year (finishing with the spirit this year). The actor who replaces Grissom is Laurence Fishburne AKA Morpheus a guy that needs the TV show.

Ok Newman you're in my hate list now. After you and other members recommended "The Blak Donnelly's" (don't know if it was you Adam but you're already in my hate list) I new I had to watch it so I downloaded the complete season. At first I tought it was a new Series that I didn't know about which I tought was strange.

Let me tell you this the Pilot episode for me it has been the best pilot episode ever. it had everything and it got me hooked since Joey "the Ice cream" started narrating and changing things. After the first episode I looked the series over and wonder Why I didn't knew about it and learned that it was aired in 2007 and cancelled after one season. But Some episode were even broadcast.

So this made me think that after a great start maybe the series went down sour but it didn't. Sure it had it's bad spins or details that had nothing to do with the core of the series. The whole 13 episodes got me fired up I finished the season in 3 nights.

Joe the Ice cream had me laughing all the time. The kid that plays Tommy wow man a new Al Pacino. The story was great the acting was better the bond of the four brothers was real. I still don't know why it was cancelled. This to me was the typical thing that happens with networks when they expect series to generate tens of millions of viewers since the first episode and don't give a series a chance to generate fan base. It happened also with Studio 60 which I also liked a lot.

Overall it was excellent 11 times better than the Sopranos I couldn't stop watching it. So thxs Newman for telling me about it but now I hate you because with the ending we got leaving me with a cliffhanger like that I'm pissed. This could had been my favorite series all time if they would have give it a chance. Now I have to watch crap like Fringe, Prison Break, Knight Rider , Eleventh Hour sh!t.

So, if you haven't seen it watch it but keep in mine that it's going to end like your first love.... Knowing that it was better that what you ever expected but still with a broken heart

NewmanOwns
01-22-2009, 09:51 AM
Haha that makes me happy to hear, even though im sorry, but better to love than not love at all, eh? hah.

Yeah, Tommy Donnelly is incredible, he fills his role as the leader of the family so well. I also agree the bond between the brothers is great....everything about the show is great.

Its because the stupid reality TV fix. They wont let shows like this prosper because they are looking for a quick view from the reality crowd instead. There even was a movement to get Black Donnellys back, but it didnt really help I guess. I hope someday, and soon, that they bring it back....word of mouth has to be responsible for it.

I was just thinking of it today, I need to rewatch the series.

OH crap I had my mind on Jackson after we were talking about Black snakd moan.. lol.. my bad.. I had to go reread it.. I am thinking I didnt type that. but I did.. that was total FUBAR. Fishburne is correct, he isnt quite as high profile as Jackson.

You can always get the missed episode off the Net Electro. There are many sites that do that.
Check out http://www.hulu.com/ to see if you can catch it there. You might have to wait until they get it up but it usually does not take long.
