Cowboys | Newman's foot injury a concern
Sun, 26 Aug 2007 21:22:58 -0700

Jean-Jacques Taylor, of the Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys CB Terence Newman (foot) is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, which is a concern because no other position runs, changes direction, stops and starts more than a cornerback.

Yeah I read the whole article BSchank and this is a cause of concern for all Cowboys fans. He may be ready to go against the Giants and be fine in the long run but...if this lingers all season long we are in trouble with out Newman back there. Glenn is his replacement and he will get burned.

Here is tha link for the complete Article. Give it a read because it is a good article: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...or.2eb4601.html (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/cowboys/stories/082707dnspotaylor.2eb4601.html)

After reading the Article, it does throw up the caution flag for concern and I guarantee you that Eli will try to test Newman come week 1 to see if he's fully healed.

I wouldn't have used Glenn as much against the Texans. I want to see what the younger kids can do.....not just Reeves.

It was a good read, thanks Adam.

I was interested to look up common recovery time and more about this injury, so I went to WebMD. Here is the full link: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/Plantar...-Topic-Overview (http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/Plantar-Fasciitis-Topic-Overview). I've highlighted a few things... this injury scares me though, especially if he doesn't have enough time to rest it before the opener.

But the overview is...

"Plantar fasciitis is common in middle-aged people. It also occurs in younger people who are on their feet a lot, like athletes or soldiers. It can happen in one foot or both feet."

You can get it from high arches/flat feet. Walking, standing, or running long periods of time. Tight achilles tendons or calf muscles.

There are a few non-surgical, common treatments. "If these treatments do not help, your doctor may give you splints that you wear at night, shots of steroid medicine in your heel, or other treatments. You probably will not need surgery."

Recovery time? "Plantar fasciitis most often occurs because of injuries that have happened over time. With treatment, you will have less pain within a few weeks. But it may take time for the pain to go away completely-from a few months to a year."

It's one of those injuries where the best treatment by far is to not use the injured area. And even when he's feeling better, it can reaggravate easily. One misstep and your out again. I think we should sit Newman for as long as it needs, then add one week. However hoirrible that is to our defense, I would rather sit T for two games, than lose him for 2007.

If thats the case then we need to work on zone coverage

The Texans just showed everyone how to move the ball if Newman doesnt start the from game one.

DCfan, you got that exactly right. With Newman out, its gonna be a open season on picking apart that secondary. May have to run the nickel or dime as the base defense, lol. what a nightmare situation.

Glenn cant hold TNews job. I dont think Reeves or Thomas are capable either, we are in for trouble if Newman's not back. I wanna see either Thomas or Reeves get the start next preseason game to see if they can show something. Glenn is not gonna cut it.

I think Thomas is going to need time to grow. I'm hoping the Cowboys get an insurance policy of some sort.

Well guys....if T-Newmans injury becomes a problem for wade, then im sure we are gonna trade for a CB reallly soon, or sign a FA if there is one reliable enough. We were already concerned with depth and looking for a 3rd CB to play behind henry, now with newmans foot causin problems, it forces us to make a move for another DB. So look for dallas to bring in someone else to play here behind henry and possibly start if newman isnt ready. Remember, last week it kffl reported that burnett, ayodele, and carpenter were all on the trading block bc we were looking for another CB because of lack of depth. Glenn is way too old and wade realizes that.
