A new agent for Marion Barber

Drew Rosenhaus has another client with the Cowboys. <_<

Rosenhaus has added running back Marion Barber to his client list, joining teammate Terrell Owens. Barber had been agent-less for a little spell, having been on a search for a few weeks.

Rosenhaus said he spoke with Cowboys VP Stephen Jones on Tuesday and hopes to have some talks with the club about a new contract when the time is right. Barber is scheduled to be a restricted free agent following the season. At the very least the Cowboys will have to put the first- or second-round tender on Barber next off-season.

Barber joins a stable of stud running backs represented by Rosenhaus and his brother, Jason: Edgerrin James, Frank Gore, Fred Taylor, Willis McGahee, Clinton Portis and, interestingly, Julius Jones' brother, Thomas.

Rosenhaus has taken some hits for his "next question," press conference when Owens was in Philadelphia, but he is good at what he does and there is a reason why players sign with him.

I really hope Barber becomes our feature back at some point. I have no idea how he would perform under a full workload of 25-30 carries per game, but I really like the way the guy runs. I love Julius' speed in the open, but man, barber jsut runs with so much more power. I suspect drew will ask for more $$$ for Barber on his contract...I say pay it, but then hand him the ball more often.

That guy is such a douche, remember how he was hogging it up in front of the cameras during the T.O. drama circus? But he is good with contracts... as long as he doesn't encourage Marion to hold out next year, I'll keep my sniper rifle in the closet.

Yeah, Barber will get his money, and well deserved when the time comes.

I have a feeling that this will be JJ's last year with us, and then MB3 will take over. With that thought, I hope we secure him up now, instead of later when he'll be getting starters money.

As long as there's no holding out BS.

Depending on how this season goes, and if Barber "keeps his nose for the endzone", I suspect that he will become the feature back for the Cowboys. This will lead to stiff competition between TT and Jujo for the second spot.

From a business aspect, it makes sense to try and use Julius as trade bait for next season (since he has a much better value then TT), as TT has the speed that Jujo has and comes at a cheaper price.

and all at once I can hear the Dallas fans all across the country let out a "D'oh" I have to agree with erie I think JJ will be trade bait and Tyson will make the move to the number two spot. I don't like Drew nor have I ever liked the guy, he smells like a weasel to me. Barber will get his pay day and the guy deserves to get payed well. Just please no hold out controversy next year.

How can he be trade bait when he'll be a FA?

I ask the same question sweatthepipe?

Good point, I forgot he was in his contract year!

Forgive me, I am going to pull a Madden and be captain obvious: If both backs are going to ask for feature-back pay, it is going to come down to whomever puts points on the board.

Does this mean JuJo needs to be given the ball more in the redzone? Who knows...all I know is it is going to be hard to have Julius, Barber, and TT and keeping everyone happy.

It's more than just the points. What JJ has 1500+ yds? And MBIII has 15 TD's? Those would be good problems to have.

The Cowboys have all Season long to wait and deal with the RB Contract issues.

The bottom line is, they will try not to overpay either back, but will probably end up having to pay one of them some serious bucks. The other will probably be in a different uniform.

If the Boys decide to use their top draft pick on a RB, it'll probably be Barber signing a one year tender before becoming an unrestricted Free agent in 2009.

With all due respect to Barber and Jones, I still envision Darren McFadden in a Cowboy uniform next season.

Drafting McFadden will solve a lot of these problems. However, drafting him in the top 5 will cause a lot of problems. For starters, a high draft pick like that will = big $$. If we give MB3 a lot of money before the draft, then I don't see McFadden wearing the star. If we dump JJ, and draft McFadden, than that might mean MB3 will get an offer from us, but it won't be a big one. He'll definitely jump ship for bigger bucks. Our only hope is that MB3 doesn't rape us, and McFadden slides down and we can trade the Browns high pick for a lower one to snatch him. But that will be difficult.

At this point, i'd rather have MB3 than McFadden.

Max, I'm with you on that too. Its too early to see what happens with the RBs, but we could use a top tier CB, that's what I really want.

going with drew means he thinks he is worth much more $$...problem is drew he has too many holdout players.. drew is a headache to deal with.. i just hope having drew does not affect Barber's status with us...Jerry will wait on Romo, JJ and Barber this year and see who earns it..but he will have to get out the big checkbook when this year is over..

if we can keep them both and make it work for us pay structure wise I would rather have that than using the top 5 option on McFadden. Barber & JJ work well together as a tag team, either McFadden and Barber or JJ is just too much money invested in the RB position. Hoping we can save our top 5 option for a more needed position like WR or CB

Yes Sweat that would be a very good problem to have. It would more likely that Barber could reach the high TD's again this year but it would be really hard for Julius to reach those 1500 yards.

Sweat I am not saying that just because I like Barber much better than Julius. I am saying that because it is really not fair to Julius to expect him to reach the 1500 yard mark because he does not get enough carries to be able to do that no matter how good of a runner he is or is not.

I forgot JJ was in a contract year too oh well so much for that idea. Only way I could see McFadden working in Dallas is if JJ signs some where else. That would leave MBIII and possibly TT splitting time. Tyson has to earn that time tho. I could see JJ signing else where and MBIII and McFadden (if Jerry were to draft him) splitting time. I just think McFadden has way too much talent to just pass on. Right now this is all a moot point and nothing but speculation but it still is a bit fun to speculate.

I think the rb issues will be fine this yeear and next even with drew as marion's agent. He gets his players their fair share and I can't argue with that. I too would rather see that top pick spent on a wideout. I wish C Johnson was still at Georgia!
