View Full Version : NBA Finals -- Lakers vs. Celtics

Well, we're about 24-hours away from the most highly-anticipated NBA Finals matchup since the turn of the millenium. While there's a very large majority taking the Lakers to win this series, you just get this feeling that eveyone's not totally convinced Boston can't show up and surprise us. I think that's because there's a huge mystery surrounding the players involved in this series. Despite all their years together in the Western Conference, there's virtually no history between the Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. Throw in the years of bad times in Boston, and you just have nothing to really go on when it comes to these two teams and the players involved. With the exceptions of Kobe, Derek Fisher, and Sam Cassell there's no championship experience on these rosters.
Are you intrigued? Are you looking for a sweep or a six/seven game series? Is there any chance Kobe is not the Finals MVP? Speak and be heard!

I cant predict Haynie. This is too intense to predict. I have seen the Lakers make it to the NBA finals 5 times and now anything but a championship would be horrible. All I will say is the Lakers will win this series and become NBA champs!

I will pick Celtics in 7.
Most likely the only Celtic fan here...and I say "Fan"-very lightly....Ever since Micheal Jordan left basketball, I have not given much time or thought to basketball.....
But, it will be fun if the Celtics win and hear all the Laker fans .........

Horrible game. The lakers did not show and neither did Kobe. Gasol has not had a good playoff game for a while and with him the lakers where no better off against the celtics then when they played the Celtics before the lakers got Gasol. This series will be short if this is how the Lakers play. I dont want to see Gasol here next year, besides the Lakers have Bynum. Odom looks like his old self again, useless. Kobe is just one of the many MVPs to not win a championship. MJ my ass, why do people compare him to MJ? MJ did not lose in the finals Kobe has done it twice after this pathetic series for the Lakers. Congratts NBA fans Celtics Lakers finals is not going to be close. Lakers have failed me again for the 6th year in a row.
Celtics in 4.

Electro... didn't you pull this same stunt after LA lost a game to the Spurs? It's kinda' lame.
You do realize that LA outplayed Boston in the 4th quarter, right? They played great D and had Boston taking almost all tough shots. The only problem was that LA was missing tons of open looks. Gasol's shot was way off, and guys like Fisher and Vujacic were missing open three's. Those shots will all be going in when they go back to Staples, and they'll definitely take at least one game in Boston. Remember, the Lakers only have to win ONE game in Boston to win this series.

I have no hope in the NBA. They rigged this game. The Lakers won this game. 10fts to 37 for the Celtics. That is stupid. I am counting this one as a win. The refs freakin rigged the game! This is horrible. The series is officially tied at 1. No one can disagree with that! Even if you are a fan of the Celtics. I am done with this league. The refs are the worst. I will not keep track of the rest of the games and thus is the last post I make in this topic. I will NEVER watch an other NBA game again. I dont care if the celtics win now because it is not real and is rigged because of bullshit officiating. Pathetic officiated game overall. The NBA wants the Celtics to win, and it shows. Enjoy the fake Celtics championship Celtics fans!!! I AM DONE!!!

Dude you are just now figuring out that the NBA Ref's are a joke? It has been that way for a very long time now. That is why I usually say the Finals go in 7 games. It does not always go that way but it normally does. Yes I agree that the Lakers need to bring it in game 3. I have confidence that they will. It's not over until it's over. We still have 5 possible games left...so I am not throwing in the towel yet. The Celtics are playing great ball though. I tip my hat to them. The Lakers will come back...you just watch.

I dont know why the NBA does not care that the refs are sh!t. I have seen too many bad calls in my time and especially in the playoffs this year. The NBA needs to get this issue fixed, nut they wont because they just dont care. So neither will I.
Also Gasol hello? Where are you?! Stop playing bad Gasol. We need more points from you and intensity as well. Damn I wish Bynum was here with Gasol, we ned a strong center, and Gasol is weak. They better play like they are not the same team as last year. So far in the Finals they look not too much better than last year.
Still the officiating did lose the Lakers the last game. The Lakers played bad but if the officials did their job then it would have been a Laker win. I broke my promise I posted in this topic again.
Have a nice week everyone.

Thank God for Sasha Vujacic. It's too bad they let fans vote for Player of the Game, because they can't see past Kobe's star power to give Sasha the recognition he deserved.

sh!t the Lakers played like sh!t the last game. Gasol and Odom need to get their sh!t together if the Lakers are to win the series. If it where not for Sashas 20pt night then they would not have won. Sasha we are thankful for you you are the reason the Lakers won this game! Also Kobe looked like a monster. The refs where not on the Celtics side in this game. from 10fts to 34 that is massive! If the refs where like that in Boston then the Lakers would have won game 2.
Lakers lead 2-1.
The Lakers really need to play better though. The Celtics are beatable if the Lakers play their game. If they did the Lakers would be up 3-0. Just 3 more wins and the Lakers have it IF they play better than tonight. Adam I hope you are right!

if KG played his normal game- not even a great game then Boston would have won. For how poorly Boston played and how close it was.......... So far the team with the most energy and aggressiveness has won...

And I have had it with my shitty teams I hate the damn cowboys too. They will lose this year and so will the Lakers next year. I am going to kill myself!
Goodbye sports I hate to watch you! Waste of my time seeing a bunch of guys who dont know me or care to. Sports had nothing to do with me and it only makes me fuc*ing pissed. So why bother? I will not. I am neutral for all sports because God knows that none of the teams i pull for win anyway. So why freakin bother. I dont freakin care! I will pull against the Lakers next season. they failed this seasn.
END SEASON GRADE FOR THE LAKERS: F

As shitty as last night's game was, I'm not going to sit here and bash the Lakers after a season where they conquered to toughest Western Conference race in history. They definitely overachieved. Here are some thoughts about the Finals, the season as a whole, and the future:
- Anyone who uses this as an excuse to slam Kobe Bryant can suck it. How many championships did Michael Jordan win without Scottie Pippen backing him up? NONE! Gasol and Odom are not Hall of Fame players. I've already heard several people say "you can stop the MJ comparisons now for Kobe" or that "MJ would've never let his team lose this series." That's such utter bullshit. MJ had a Hall of Fame sidekick, one of the greatest players of my lifetime, helping carry the load of success. The basketball world has glorified Jordan to a status far greater than reality. He never won a damn thing without help, and more help than Kobe's had since Shaq left.
Here's another MJ-related point. How did the Bulls fare while Jordan was away playing baseball? They were 55-27 and made it to the second round of the playoffs. Does this Laker team even make the playoffs without Kobe? Nope! Do they even have a winning record? Maybe not. Don't sit here and tell me Kobe is somehow less of a player because he couldn't carry this team. Fuck the media.
- I already mentioned this in a seperate thread I started, but they have got to move Lamar Odom. Check out my post for more details on this, but it merits mentioning again. I love the guy, but he just does not fit. It'll be even worse when Bynum comes back.
- Speaking of Bynum, he was never more missed than during the past two weeks. Not only for the individual defense he could have put on Garnett, but his presence in the middle would have changed the amount penetrations guys like Rondo and Pierce were getting the whole series. GET WELL SOON, ANDREW!!
- One thing I think we can admit about this series is that we saw what would have happened against the Spurs if Ginobili had been healthy. Ginobili is San Antonio's Paul Pierce, and I think the Lakers wouldn't have even seen the Finals if not for his being hurt during the Conference Finals.
- After moving Odom, I think the next offseason priority should be acquiring a true backup center who can come in and bring some energy as a shot-blocker/rebounder. I don't what it is about Turiaf, but he doesn't seem to be nearly as much of a true inside presence as he is more of a wide-range ballhawk. We need a guy like the Celts' had in PJ Brown.

He was sitting in the sideline in a suit. His name is Andrew Bynum.

Im fine now, have been for a few days. I just cant believe that another year wasted. It is old hat for the Lakers to make the finals. and I am bored of the Finals now. I will only be happy or cheer with happiness if the Lakers can pull a championship out of their asses. Trade Odom and that will be closer, and Gasol, stop being a douche, I would trade you too. Get some muscle and become more that a gangly bastard which he is now. I guess I would still keep him, but if he screws up like he did in the finals then trade him after next season. Bynum is wayyyy better and has more heart than Gasol. They will play at the same time next season, and Rad can enjoy the bench where he belongs. Odom he he stays I dont know what he will be like, bad most likely, as Haynie said in the other thread Trade him.
Kobe has failed again and I dont want to hear any MJ comments about Kobe. Kobe is nothing compared to MJ. 6 rings for MJ, 3 for Kobe, but those 3 came with a stacked team where MJ had a good team but not more than 1 all star which the 00-02 Lakers had. Kobe you idiot, you get an F from me and all other Lakers fans.
Sorry to rant again. The first post I did was impulsive after the shitty last game which I did not see the whole thing thank God! lol, that post is pretty funny to see though, and Adam I did get more of that drug you stated.
That teaches me to not care about anything the team does until they win the championship. I promise to you all that for the Cowboys I will not get confident after any of the regular season wins as it means nothing. Nor does playoff wins, only the final one matters for the Lakers and Cowboys.
Next season prediction for the Lakers, well with Odom out in round 2, with out him, in Finals and perhaps lose again, I give that one a 50/50 chance, unless Boston in there with the same team then Celtics win that 100%.

Jordan had Pippen, Grant, Armstrong, and Paxon. How can you say that there was only one All-Star on that team? There was easily two All-Stars and maybe three or four. Newman just made the Pro-Bowl this year. Does that mean that all the years he didnt he wasnt playing at that level? Jordan had way more talent on his teams than Kobe had this year.
Haynie
06-28-2008, 03:08 PM
Bingo! During the second run, he had Pippen, Rodman, and Kukoc. I'm so sick of the disses on Kobe for not being able to carry this team. This assumption that Jordan would've done it is based on pure hype and fantasy. He never proved anything like that during his career. All his early years with the Bulls were a big failure, and it wasn't until Phil and Pippen showed up that he became a champion.
