Jerry has looked for "Wow", but not from Chad

Contrary to what's been out there, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he has not made a call to Cincinnati to inquire about star receiver Chad Johnson.

He was pretty succinct too. "No" is how he flatly answered the question. But Jerry did say that he has asked another team about the availability of a star receiver. And the smart money says that was either A) Detroit (Roy Williams) or B) Arizona (Anquan Boldin).

"I wouldn't give who it was, but the answer is yes. We have talked (with another team)," Jones said. "I wouldn't give you a timeframe on it either, if you're talking the last week or the last few days. But certainly since (the start of) the offseason."

Jones also left open the possibility that a draft day trade could be made. Whether that's for Boldin or Williams or someone else, who knows? What did seem certain, especially in Jones' mind, was that a "No!" now could be a "Sure" on Saturday. That's just the way these things go, with teams more willing to deal veterans the closer you get to the draft.

"Unquestionably, now and on the clock, but really on the clock during draft day," Jones said. "It is an important time to get the most value for a veteran player, if he's in demand. If I'm the team that's got the player, my best time to move is right then. And the minute the draft is over, picks don't have anywhere near the value and everyone's protecting the players they've got.

"It's amazing at how the perception of these rookie players diminish, minutes after the draft and how it's going to take a lot of work to even get them on the field, when minutes before, they were going to be saving the franchise."

So what to make of all this?

Well, let's put it this way -- If there's a player Detroit or Arizona really likes available at 22 or 28, don't rule out the possibility that Boldin or Williams could be dealt on draft day. Williams is up after this year, and Boldin's got a below-market contract that he wants redone. So either of those teams could save themselves headaches and, perhaps, get value for their star players by dealing them then.

And for those teams, chances are perspective will be quite a bit different with the pressure of a time element thrown into the mix.

All I know is what Genghis Khan believed of enemy generals offering their services to the Mongols, in place of capture. If this guy is willing to sell out his team now, he'll sell my team out too. I strongly believe in that. If you are willling to toss the team that you play for under the proverbial bus, you're likely to do the same for your new team.

Good for Jerry

P.S. enemy generals offering their services to Genghis Khan would be invited to sit before the Khan, state their case, and then each would have his head lopped off from behind as he spoke (regardless of talent or value to the Mongol army).

I think I just got a lesson that I never thought I would receive on the Mongol Army. I think I would much rather deal with Jerry then have my head chopped off. LOL I never really thought the possibility of getting Chad was real anyways. The Bengals have said no way all along and just backed it up by turning down a nice offer by the Redskins. Like DallasBoys I think Jerry was smart to not get involved in that mess. If I were the Bengals Organization I would not grant him a trade either. I would make him play or sit out the whole season before I would give into his demands. Especially after how he totally crapped on all his teammates and Coaches through the media like that.

I think Jerry really favors Roy Williams first and foremost anyways. Then he may look to Boldin if Roy is not doable. Neither one of them is a sure bet to be traded at all so like the report says...we will have to sit back and see if things heat up the closer the draft gets here.
