I am totally with you on the NEED for a top of the line reciever. All you have to do is look what number two capable wideouts got in free agency and you will see that it is imperitive that you groom one of your own. I also do not think that Crayton is cut out to be a number one in the NFL and with TOs age that guy(number one wr) needs to be on our team and being groomed right now. Running backs are drafted and do very well in the later rounds, so it will not hurt to pick one up in 2-4. It also takes a little longer for most wrs to transition from the college to the pros, so if you want a great reciever next year or the following year, this is the year to draft him.
I think that a solid wideout in free agency might have been JJs wow factor, but when the prices went through the roof he decided to stand pat.

We don't know yet what kind of trades are in the works. All we know is what rumors have been floating around. We already know for sure that Dallas inquired about what it'd take to get Javon Walker, so it's safe to assume that we are looking into getting a veteran wide receiver.
I've heard a lot of bad things about the receiver class in this draft. Most analysts are saying that with the exception of one or two guys, there are no #1 WR prospects this year. I believe a #1 prospect is what we need, though.
I like your article, Joe. I think the only thing that makes this different is that our Michael Irvin receiver is 34 years old rather than 24 or 25 like Irvin was back then. That's why I think if we draft a WR, it needs to be someone with #1 potential. If we don't think we can get someone with #1 potential, we should trade one of our firsts to another team who has a young WR (under 27 years old) who will be able to step in after next season if they decide not to retain Terrell Owens.
You do make a great point though that we don't need a RB in the first round. While I could fantasize about having Mendenhall, Felix Jones, or even Jonathan Stewart (who says there's anything wrong with having 2 bruising backs, eh?) I think we can make better use of those picks.

you can make a case to go after a CB, with one or both picks in the 1 round. that's face it our secondary is and has been our biggest problem.
with the rising cost of CB in the league, it might be good to think about, having two young CB learning the system. Hey i love Terance Newmen, One of the best in the league, But he is 29 and seem's to be injured alot. and will demand a HUGE contract, in the near future. Can we afford him ? I say no.
Remeber the Pats did that go Asante Samuel !

Yep good read indeed Joe. I have slowly started to think we should Go RB in the second round myself. The longer we keep going without being able to pick up a WR in FA the more I am leaning towards us going CB/WR or WR/CB in the first round.

Thats the thing Adam, free agency changes everything. Yeah before free agency we all thought we could get a guy like Bernard Berrian, or Javon Walker, or trade for someone like Roy Williams of the Lions. Now that we're getting so close to the draft and none of that has happened yet, it definitely starts to change your mind about what we can and should do.
And then again, more things could happen in free agency that could change our opinions again before the draft. As of right now, though, I would definitely like to see a quality first round WR on our roster next season, especially if we don't end up trading for a good veteran.
