I thought this might be a fun way to get started on discussion about college players who will be a part of the draft in April.

Have you seen a specific player that you think the Cowboys should try to get in the draft? You guys have heard me preaching about Chris Johnson from East Carolina over and over. I've provided highlight clips, 40 times, physical characteristics, stats, etc. He is the one person that --assuming Dallas does not move up in the first to pursue Darren McFadden-- I have my heart set on Dallas getting.

I'll repeat his stats here:

Name: Chris Johnson
Position: RB
College: East Carolina
Height/Weight: 5'11, 200 pounds
Projected: Anywhere between late 1st and 3rd round. Most likely a mid to late 2nd rounder.

Notes: Runs the 40 time in 4.28 seconds, which would make him the fastest running back in the NFL once he is drafted. Has excellent receiving skills. Recorded over 1,000 yards rushing and over 500 yards receiving in his senior season. Broke the NCAA record for most all-purpose yards in a bowl game his senior season.

So anyways. Lets see how much prospect information we can fit into this one topic. I'll keep adding guys as I see them. Try to be as complete as possible if you can. At least give some stats. Personally, I'll contribute guys who I think will be 2nd-7th round "steals." I'll try to keep this topic running all the way through the draft if possible.

Because of you and the others that have been hyping him, i'm totally for drafting this guy.

Hah! That's kinda why I started this topic. When I get off of work tonight I'll see if I can dig up some more good talent for us to ponder. Johnson would be a good kid to get if we're wanting MBIII to carry the load and not looking for a guy to step on his toes. Felix Jones just seems a little too high to draft another RB for a 2-back system. Barber will get a big paycheck and then we would have to give another big paycheck to Felix Jones. That's just a little too much money to spend when you're talking about a team who's primary offensive weapon is the pass-game. Gotta get an RB that can be a receiving 3rd down back.

There is no such thing as a draft until after the Superbowl.

HOOK EM!!!!!!!!!

I dunno, i always like talkin about it. While its hard to accurately gauge the draft at this time, its still good to see some names especially since we'll be catching these prospects play in various bowl games and the senior bowl over these next couple of weeks.

I almost look forward to the draft as much as i do to the regular season.

Yeah I tend to take vacation days on draft days :)

I'll get you guys 1 or 2 more prospects later tonight. I think this topic will shape up nicely because it's one thing to see a name, but quite another to get his information and highlight clips with it.

Like I said in the other post:

1st rounda - Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
1st roundb - Loedis McKelvin, CB, Troy
2nd Round - Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina
3thd Round - Will Arnold, LG, LSU
4th Round - James Hardy, WR, Indiana

Sweed is just a straight up playmaker, I am not sure he falls to us but we don't even know the order yet.

McKelvin is a solid cover corner with good speed and recovery, also I really like Brandon Flowers.

Johnson we all know is amazing, super fast, versatile, tough runner

Will Arnold is 6-4 320 pounds, has had a couple of injuries that push him to the third but he plays really well and doesn't make a lot of mental errors

James Hardy is very fast and has great hands, just needs to work on his over the middle routes.

I love the idea of getting McFadden. I know he's not the greatest compliment for Barber, but he's such a playmaker, like Adrian Peterson, that he could be a star for a long time. If we don't move up to get him, then definitely look to get a speed-burner type. Robinson surely fits the bill, along with guys like Felix Jones, Jonathon Stewart, and Ray Rice.

There's a beast of an offensive lineman to be taken at the end of the 1st or early in the 2nd. Here are the stats:

Name: Jeff Otah
Position: Offensive Tackle
College: Pittsburgh
Height: 6'6
Weight: 340 pounds

Haven't seen much of him, but as our Tony Romo would say "That's Flo size right there." You couldn't make a player more similar to Flozell's characteristics if you cloned him. Flozell is listed at 6'7 340 pounds.

If we do let Flozell go, I wouldn't mind seeing this guy taken with our second 1st round pick to take his place. It would be a stretch to see Dallas take this guy unless one of our starting linemen are given their walking papers, however. Even though you'd hate to pass up on an offensive lineman this big. Remember though, if the Cowboys think Flozell is too expensive, this guy would definitely be cheaper.... at least during his initial contract.

Yeah Jeffrey Otah is rather amazing but do we really need him. The only reason I would say to draft him is because honestly we don't really need much. However, we don't need to replace Flo. We already have Doug Free, Pat McQuistan, and James Marten. I would like to see one of those guys get a shot at starting.

Now that we have signed Crayton as the eventual #2 WR, to replace Glenn, our next moves should be to keep Flo and Barber. Let JJ, Hamlin, Spears and either Reeves or N. Jones walk. Go after either CB's Asante Samuel or Nnamdi Asomugha and move Henry to FS and solidify the weakest link. We then can draft for the future.

1a-Malcolm Kelly or Adarious Bowman to groom as T-O's heir as the #1WR.

1b-NT Frank Okam as the anchor of the future on the D-line in case Ferguson is done and Ratliff can move back to DE and replace Spears.

2-Speed RB in Chris Johnson or Donnie Avery to pair with Barber and return kicks.

3-G Andrew Bain to provide depth in the middle of the O-line

4-CB Brandon Flowers depth for the secondary

5-Future #2 QB in Henne, O'Donnell, or Morelli

The biggest depth needs are QB, RB, interior O-line, NT, and Secondary.

We get eventual starters in Okam and Kelly or Bowman and possibly Bain at LG.

We already have OT replacements in McQuistan and Free.

Spencer and Carpenter will eventually replace Ayodele and Ellis.

First off like I have said many times we DO NOT need to sign an overpriced FA CB. Keep Henry at CB and draft a corner for him to learn from. If we were smart we would get rid or Roy and move Hamlin to that spot after he is resigned and then start Watkins. The other alternative is if that CB we draft looks amazing then we can start him and then move Henry to FS.

Adarius Bowman is going to be awesome by the way.

Brandon Flowers is a future Pro Bowler and will not last past the middle of the second round probably picked before then after the combine.

Not sure signing Crayton makes him the future #2 because our offense still calls for three WR starting a lot of the time, unlike a lot of other teams that play with two.

If we get a receiver that turns out ot be really good he will probably be the #2 guy, I think that Crayton is better in the slot anyway.

Reeves gets eaten alive every week. My draft order:

1st.CB
2st.RB or WR
3rd.RB or WR whichever wasn't taken 1st.
4th.G
5th.DT
Fill out depth with the rest of the picks.

I agree exactly with everything except DT. I really don't see the point here. Ratliff is young are playing great plus we do have depth behind him with our bigger ends in Spears and Bowen not to mention Tank Johnson. I also would like to point out that Fergy's injury is a bicep injury and not a knee injury, so I don't think he is necessarily done either. If we drafted a DT he wouldn't even make the team at this point.

I would like to know if Jerry is going to keep Brad Johnson around next year, if not we should probably use a late rounder on a backup QB.

I guess the DT pick is whether or not we bring back tank. He is a UFA, so if he doesnt come back we'll need someone.

Good call, I thought we had him for longer than that. I hope we do resign him I think he has done good things for us.

Anyone that you have in mind in particular? Rivers, Jackson? Terrell Thomas?

I wonder if Maualuga or Cushing goes in. I know they said they were staying another year, but who knows what they wanna do now. Too bad we don't need anymore linebackers.

You never know if we are going to need more linebackers or not. One thing I haven't heard discussed in this forum is whether or not Bill would look to bring Ellis to miami to help the transition on D. He did say he wants to have a big defense. What if he took Ellis and Carp so he could have Ellis, Porter, Carp, and Zach Thomas.

Seems like a smart move on his part and then we would need depth and for Spencer to step up.

What do you think?

I like where you are going, I really do. What about this? Couple a 1st or better yet 2nd round pick and a player or two to Cincy for Ocho Cinco? OC is a proven playmaker and a very hard worker in the off season. He is not happy in Cincy, and reports are that they are not too happy with him either. At 29, he has still alot of ball in him and he wouldnt cost too much more than what we are paying TGlenn already. Can you imagine T.O. on one side and Ocho Cinco on the other with Witt as the tight end and Crayton in the slot.
Then we take
1st B Leodis McKelvin or B. Flowers
2nd C. Johnson
3rd James Hardy if he is there............he may be long gone before this round though
4th BPA
5th BPA
6th BPA
7th BPA

I don't think that anyone would argue against bring Chad here, except the two playmaking receivers will butt heads argument. The only question I have is about the price. I don't think a player and a first would be enough. Randy went for a fourth rounder but he had two poor seasons filled with bad news surrounding his departure. It would take at least a solid player and first rounder to get him.

What about Roy and a first? I know it may seem like I am just trying to find a scenario where Roy might be leaving but.....well that is exactly it.
