Marcus Spears admits that he's been J.A.G. since the Cowboys made him the 20th pick of the 2005 draft. He vows that this will be his breakout season, now that he's freed from Bill Parcells' boring two-gap scheme.

The preseason doesn't count, but Spears backed up his boasts tonight. The fumble he recovered was unforced, but he still had to beat a block and beat a bunch of guys to the ball. He didn't record a sack, but the holding call he drew in the first quarter is just as good.

Spears accounted for only one turnover, two tackles for losses and 2.5 sacks in his first two seasons. He'll be disappointed if he doesn't hit those numbers by the midway point of the regular season.

"I'm used to making game-changing plays," Spears said. "That's what I was used to before I got here, and I want to get back to that."
